LOS ANGELES, April 11, 2017 - In the first quarter of 2017, viewers watched PragerU videos over 103 million times. This is a new record for PragerU, the conservative digital media organization, and represents a 60% increase over 2016’s average of 20.8 million views per month.
The PragerU videos, collectively garnering an average of over 2 million views per video, run five minutes or less in length, and feature prominent presenters (Christina Sommers, Steven Crowder, and Gloria Alvarez, to name a few) explaining political, historical, economic, and lifestyle issues. Videos cover topics ranging from taxes to marriage, from laughter to economics.
Marissa Streit, PragerU’s CEO, believes the videos’ popularity owes not only to their easy-to-watch style and entertaining graphics, but also to a broader need in society.
“Schools and universities are simply not teaching students what they need to know, and the students are aware of it,” said Mrs. Streit. “Our videos give anyone with access to the internet the ability to escape the overwhelming liberal dogma of most academia, and to learn, in five minutes, about issues of personal, political, economic and moral importance from renowned experts, teaching facts.”
PragerU’s most watched video in 2016 was a simple explanation of the Electoral College – it was viewed over 51 million times.
PragerU’s 100 million-plus views in 2017 came from the organization’s demographically diverse and geographically wide-ranging following, with viewers from all 50 states and over 100 countries.
Devon Mirksy, the national director of PragerFORCE (PragerU’s campus program), has noted increased interest from Europe and Brazil. “Students abroad really like our videos’common sense, pro-freedom, pro-American themes,” remarked Ms. Mirsky.
PragerU’s most viewed video of 2017 to date, with over 5 million views, features Dave Rubin explaining “Why I left the left.” Mr. Rubin’s video is a quick look at the leftist betrayal of liberal values like free speech and individual liberty.
PragerU actively promotes its videos trough YouTube, Facebook, and more recently, Instagram. The social media campaign appears to be working; the majority of PragerU video views this year have come through Facebook.
Mrs. Streit believes that PragerU’s impressive viewership over the last three months will continue to grow. “We have a lot of exciting new video courses planned for the coming months, new partnerships with organizations who share our mission, big name presenters, and new, creative ways to engage with our viewers. The team at PragerU is elated about reaching our first hundred million views this year in three months; we’re even more excited because planning for the next hundred million views is well underway.”
